In de Verenigde Staten heeft de minister van Volksgezondheid Robert F. Kennedy Jr. meermaals kritiek geuit over de aanwezigheid van aluminium in sommige vaccins&#x002C; en probeerde hij zelfs de publicatie van een grote Deense studie hierover in te trekken.\u00a0In dit artikel beschrijven we de Deense studie en weerleggen we de kritiek die bestaat rond aluminium in vaccins.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class='summary'>\n<div class='summary-article-content'>\n<p><strong>Kernboodschappen\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style='color:black;'><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Een Deense cohortstudie over 20 jaar onderzocht de veiligheid van aluminiumbevattende vaccins bij meer dan 1&#x002C;22 miljoen kinderen.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style='color:black;'><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Cumulatieve <strong>blootstelling aan aluminium<\/strong> uit vaccins gedurende de eerste 2 levensjaren was <strong>niet geassocieerd<\/strong> met een toename van het risico op <strong>auto-immuunstoornissen&#x002C; atopie of allergie&#x002C; of neurologische ontwikkelingsstoornissen<\/strong> (waaronder autisme en ADHD) op de leeftijd van\u00a05 jaar.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style='color:black;'><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is een gekende criticus van vaccins. Het tijdschrift waarin deze Deense studie werd gepubliceerd&#x002C; weigerde in te gaan op zijn vraag om de publicatie terug te trekken.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Adjuvantia in vaccins: functie en misvattingen<\/h2>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Aluminiumzouten (aluminiumhydroxide&#x002C; -fosfaat of -kaliumsulfaat) worden als sinds de jaren\u00a0\u201950 toegevoegd als adjuvans aan niet-levende vaccins. Door hun aanwezigheid blijft het vaccin op de plaats van injectie en wordt het beter opgenomen door de cellen van het immuunsysteem&#x002C; waardoor ze bijdragen tot een sterkere immuunrespons. De hoeveelheid aluminium in vaccins is zeer laag (0&#x002C;125 mg tot 1 mg per dosis).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Door critici wordt de aanwezigheid van aluminium in vaccins gelinkt aan het optreden van verschillende kinderziektes&#x002C; waaronder neurologische ontwikkelingsstoornissen zoals autisme. Naast aluminium is ook de aanwezigheid van thiomersal in vaccins volgens critici gelinkt aan autisme. Deze kritiek ontstond na het verschijnen van een studie uit 1998 (Wakefield et al&#x002C; 1998)&#x002C; die ondertussen teruggetrokken is omwille van fraude. Grootschalige studies van betere kwaliteit hebben nadien geen enkel verband gevonden tussen de aanwezigheid van thiomersal en het optreden van autisme. Ondertussen bevat geen enkel vaccin in Belgi\u00eb nog thiomersal.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>De Deense studie<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Studie-opzet<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>In juli 2025 werd een grootschalige cohortstudie gepubliceerd die de veiligheid van aluminiumbevattende vaccins bij meer dan 1&#x002C;22 miljoen Deense kinderen onderzocht.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Alle kinderen geboren tussen 1\/1\/1997 en 31\/12\/2018 werden opgenomen in de cohort. Kinderen met congenitale aandoeningen werden uitgesloten van de studie. Van elk kind was via een nationale databank gekend wanneer ze welk type vaccin kregen. Op basis hiervan kon de cumulatieve blootstelling aan aluminium uit vaccins gedurende de eerste twee levensjaren bepaald worden.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Gegevens van de kinderen werden geanalyseerd vanaf de leeftijd van 2 jaar&#x002C; tot de leeftijd van 5 jaar&#x002C; overlijden&#x002C; emigratie of einde studieperiode (31\/12\/2020).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Gedurende de studieperiode is het Deense basisvaccinatieprogramma een aantal keer gewijzigd (bv door de invoering van pneumokokkenvaccinatie of wijzigingen in de formulatie van gebruikte vaccins). Daardoor kregen kinderen uit verschillende geboortejaren andere hoeveelheden aluminium toegediend via vaccinatie. Deze verschillen in cumulatieve blootstelling hangen dus samen met het geboortejaar en niet met individuele keuzes of eigenschappen van het kind&#x002C; zoals gezondheid of socio-economische situatie.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>In totaal werden 50 chronische aandoeningen onderzocht&#x002C; waaronder 36 auto-immuunstoornissen&#x002C; 9 atopische of allergische aandoeningen en\u00a0<\/span><br \/><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>5 neurologische ontwikkelingsstoornissen (waaronder autisme en ADHD).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Er werd onderzocht of er een toename was van het risico naarmate er meer aluminiumblootstelling was. Dit gebeurde via een Cox-regressieanalyse. Er werd gecorrigeerd voor o.a. geboortejaar en -seizoen&#x002C; leeftijd en medische achtergrond van de moeder&#x002C; geboortegewicht en socio-economische factoren.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Resultaten van de studie<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>1 227 176 kinderen werden opgenomen in de analyse&#x002C; waarvan 1&#x002C;2% geen enkel aluminiumbevattend vaccin kreeg toegediend. De mediane hoeveelheid aluminium waaraan de kinderen werden blootgesteld was 3 mg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Voor geen enkel primair eindpunt ging cumulatieve aluminiumblootstelling gepaard met een statistisch significante toename van het risico tegen de leeftijd van 5 jaar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>De HR bedroeg 0&#x002C;98 (95% BI van 0&#x002C;94 tot 1&#x002C;02) voor <strong>auto-immuunaandoeningen<\/strong>. De meest voorkomende uitkomst was het optreden van astma\u00a0<\/span><br \/><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>(HR 0&#x002C;96 (95% BI van 0&#x002C;94 tot 0&#x002C;98))&#x002C; gevolgd door atopische dermatitis (HR 1&#x002C;02 (95%\u00a0BI van 1&#x002C;00 tot 1&#x002C;04)) en allergische rhinitis (HR 0&#x002C;99 (95% BI van 0&#x002C;97 tot 1&#x002C;01)).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Voor <strong>allergie of atopie<\/strong> bedroeg de HR 0&#x002C;99 (95% BI van 0&#x002C;98 tot 1&#x002C;01) en voor <strong>neurologische ontwikkelingsstoornissen<\/strong> 0&#x002C;93 (95% BI van 0&#x002C;90 tot 0&#x002C;97). Specifiek voor het syndroom van Asperger werd een HR van 1&#x002C;13 (95% BI van 0&#x002C;89 tot 1&#x002C;44) teruggevonden.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Vooral voor de zeldzame aandoeningen kunnen kleine risicotoenames niet volledig worden uitgesloten&#x002C; bij gebrek aan statistische power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Een <strong>secundaire analyse<\/strong> waarbij kinderen <strong>tot de leeftijd van 8 jaar<\/strong> werden opgevolgd&#x002C; vond dat meer aluminiumblootstelling niet gepaard ging met een hogere kans op ontwikkelingsstoornissen: voor autisme werd een HR van 0&#x002C;95 (95% BI van 0&#x002C;92 tot 0&#x002C;97) per 1 mg toename in aluminiumblootstelling teruggevonden en voor ADHD een HR van 0&#x002C;92 (95% BI van 0&#x002C;90 tot 0&#x002C;94).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span lang='NL'>Beperkingen van de studie<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>De voornaamste beperking van deze studie is de <strong>beperkte follow-upduur voor neurologische ontwikkelingsstoornissen<\/strong>. Gegevens werden immers geanalyseerd tot de leeftijd van 5 jaar&#x002C; terwijl bepaalde ontwikkelingsstoornissen (zoals autisme en ADHD) ook op latere leeftijd worden vastgesteld. Hoewel een secundaire analyse werd uitgevoerd met gegevens tot de leeftijd van 8 jaar&#x002C; blijft een onderschatting van het aantal diagnoses mogelijk. Daarnaast zijn de analyses gebaseerd op retrospectieve gegevens uit ziekenhuisdatabanken. Diagnoses die in de ambulante setting werden gesteld&#x002C; zijn mogelijk niet geregistreerd&#x002C; wat opnieuw zou kunnen leiden tot een onderschatting van het aantal gevallen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''><strong>Voor sommige eindpunten werd een HR significant lager dan 1&#x002C;00 gedetecteerd<\/strong>&#x002C; wat suggereert dat het risico zelfs lager is bij hogere aluminiumblootstelling. De auteurs geven echter geen verklaring voor deze observatie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Tenslotte waren er <strong>voor zeldzame aandoeningen onvoldoende gevallen<\/strong>&#x002C; waardoor de statistische power om kleine risicoverschillen te detecteren onvoldoende kan zijn.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Welke vaccins bevatten aluminium?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Je kan in het repertorium in de zoekbalk \u2018aluminium (hulpstof)\u2019 invoeren en dan krijg je een actuele lijst van alle vaccins (en andere geneesmiddelen) waarin aluminium zit. De aanwezigheid van aluminium wordt vermeld ter hoogte van de specialiteit. Zie verder voor een overzicht van de specialiteiten die aluminium bevatten.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'=''>Commentaar BCFI<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Ondanks de beperkingen&#x002C; geeft deze grote Deense studie opnieuw geruststellende resultaten wat betreft het gebruik van aluminium in vaccins.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>De Amerikaanse minister van volksgezondheid Robert F. Kennedy Jr. heeft aan het tijdschrift <\/span><i><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Annals of Internal Medicine<\/span><\/i><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>&#x002C; waarin de studie werd gepubliceerd&#x002C; gevraagd om de publicatie terug te trekken. Deze terugtrekking is door het tijdschrift geweigerd. Het is gekend dat Kennedy kritisch is ten opzichte van wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Met wetenschappelijk onderzoek kan je een causaal verband aantonen&#x002C; maar je kan nooit definitief bewijzen dat een causaal verband niet bestaat. Wat je wel kan vaststellen&#x002C; is dat een verband (zeer) onwaarschijnlijk is wanneer herhaald&#x002C; grootschalig en kwalitatief hoogstaand onderzoek geen enkel verband aantoont. Het is van deze nuance dat Kennedy gebruik maakt om twijfel te zaaien over de veiligheid van vaccins. Naast zijn uitspraken over de aanwezigheid van aluminium in vaccins&#x002C; heeft hij ook de website van de CDC laten aanpassen. CDC meldt nu dat de claim dat vaccins geen autisme veroorzaken niet op evidentie berust.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Als reactie op de website van de CDC&#x002C; heeft EMA een nieuwe webpagina gelanceerd \u2018<\/span><a href='https:\/\/www.ema.europa.eu\/en\/human-regulatory-overview\/public-health-threats\/vaccine-preventable-diseases-key-facts\/vaccines-concerns-questions-false-claims'><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Vaccines: concerns&#x002C; questions and false claims<\/span><\/a><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>\u2019&#x002C; waarop zij op evidentie gebaseerde informatie over de veiligheid van vaccins verzamelen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>\u2018<\/span><a href='https:\/\/www.gezondheidenwetenschap.be\/gezondheid-in-de-media\/deense-studie-bevestigt-dat-aluminium-in-vaccins-onschadelijk-is-voor-kinderen'><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Gezondheid en Wetenschap<\/span><\/a><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>\u2019 brengt dezelfde boodschap naar het grote publiek. In een artikel op hun website bespreken ze dezelfde studie&#x002C; met als conclusie dat vaccinatie niet gepaard gaat met een verhoogd risico op chronische aandoeningen. Ze melden ook dat de hoeveelheid die je via een vaccin binnenkrijgt slechts een fractie is van de hoeveelheid aluminium die we dagelijks via andere wegen binnenkrijgen en dat deze hoeveelheden duidelijk onder de toxische drempel liggen. Dit geldt ook voor zuigelingen en kleine kinderen.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style='font-family:;' calibri'&#x002C;sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;'='' lang='NL'>Over welke
